Fragment

The lands of Vespirian are broken up into fragments that act like moving islands in the Vespic sea. Fragments come in various sizes and shapes. Each one has a large Leystone somewhere near the center of the landmass. Supposedly this magical stone somehow keeps the landmass from being broken apart as the fragment moves around. The larger the Leystone, the larger the Fragment it supports.

The apparent shape of a Fragment doesn't seem to matter when it comes to Fragments colliding next to each other. The edges seem unstable and that allows them to sort of merge with whatever other Fragments happen to be nearby. This forms some temporary new land that acts as a bridge between Fragments. This bridge dissolves and reforms after each Shift. It's currently unknown what happens to someone standing on such a bridge during the event of a Shift. Even the local Vespic people's don't seem to know exactly what happens, but they are very careful to avoid it. I don't blame them! I certainly wouldn't want to be the first person to find out!
